General guidelines for extending the life of your rug:

    • Never use the beater bar on your vacuum. Some vacuums are too intense for area rugs and can cause further shedding or fraying of the surface or edges. Try to adjust your vacuum to the "hardwood floor" setting if applicable. A gentle suction will do the trick!
    • Always use a rug pad. Rug pads not only protect your flooring underneath, but also extend the life of your rug. Specifically, a proper rug pad prevents wrinkling, creasing and matting of your rug over time.
    • Try to rotate your rug once a year. We understand that this can be difficult with very large rugs, but the more often you rotate, the longer your rug will last. Rotating prevents fading from strong sunlight and evens-out areas of your rug that are frequently walked upon.
    • To remove everyday dirt and dust, vacuum at least once a week. Regular vacuuming will prevent impurities from grinding into the pile of your rug and will keep your rug looking like new.
    • In the event of a stain, resist the temptation to rub! Rubbing will inevitably grind the stain deeper into the pile of the rug and can distort the integrity of your rug's fibers. Please refer to our Stain Treatment Guide for specific spot cleaning recommendations.
