There are so many difficult decisions to be made before you welcome a new baby into the world. The last thing you should worry about is choosing the right rug for your nursery.
We've created a few guidelines for you to remember while shopping for the best rugs for your baby’s nursery to help make the entire process a little smoother!
1. Materials (And Those to Avoid)
3. Rug Pads - The Asset We All Need
Consider a rug that is soft to the touch but does not have a pile that is too high or shaggy. Curious cuddlers like to put everything in their mouths, and a rug with long fibers can be chewed or tugged.
Tufted area rugs with canvas backings are constructed using latex glue, so some can have strong odors initially. Due to newborns’ sensitivities, we would advise against an area rug that is tufted.
Additionally, tufted rugs can shed more often than hand-made or machine-made rugs. Shedding wool can be bothersome to a baby's skin and is best if avoided when possible.
You may feel as though choosing a rug size for a nursery can be difficult, however, the most common size for a nursery rug is 5'x8', which looks nice placed alongside the crib. A 5'x8' leaves enough room for comfort underfoot without infringing on the furniture around the perimeter of the room.
What size rug is best for a baby nursery also depends on personal preference. You can place any type of rug, big or small, but we recommend keeping it along side the crib for the best interior design.
Always make sure you purchase an area rug pad to go underneath the rug. This will prevent the rug from slipping as your baby begins to take their first steps!
